More Information

Using the higher quality VGA (PC) input the RGB to Plasma VGA interface offers a sharper and cleaner picture on compatible screens. New version of the RGB to Plasma unit is designed to simply be the best. Gold connectors for audio and VGA output, and a multi-layer PCB to ensure optimal picture quality.

The RGB to Plasma VGA allows for RGB to be connected to Plasma screen's VGA input, or the discrete RGBHV inputs. This offers the highest quality possible connection to a plasma screen from domestic Audio Visual sources. Designed to be used with Sky Digital, On Digital / Freeview, digital cable and DVD players.

50% Sync Splicing gives the RGB to Plasma VGA unit it's unique accuracy, providing rejection to noise and hum. With a three pole input filter, the sync detection is not disturbed by the colour burst. This accuracy can not be achieved by simplest sync circuits, only with the unique RGB to Plasma VGA technology.

Broadcast quality with true H-Sync output, not found on lesser and simplistic Sync Separators. Even in the presence of Macrovision copy protection, the RGB to Plasma VGA unit is able to keep true to the original source. Always stable, always with the correct line frequency.

Computer enhanced allowing for compatibility with Macrovision protected sources, such as DVD players, but still maintaining broadcast quality performance. Removing the extra synchronisation pulses added by Macrovision helps to ensure a stable picture.

Output is via a standard VGA type connector. High quality VGA leads are available in the cables section. Audio is passed directly to the two phono outputs without modification to ensure optimum audio quality. All output connectors are in gold.

Multi-layer Printed Circuit Board (PCB) ensures that outside interferences are excluded, resulting in more accurate detection and optimum picture quality.

Measuring just 150x85x48mm with a high quality integrated power supply, the RGB to Plasma VGA is compact and easy to use.

Constructed with components from some of the world's leading manufacturers and utilising a multi-layer high-quality fibreglass PCB, this level of quality and detail is rare. Designed and manufactured by J.S. Technology in the UK.

Suitable high quality VGA cables are available separately in various lengths.

Compatibility Information

Compatibility, Projector, PC Monitor and TFT Screen Information.

If your screen or projector is not compatible with the RGB to Plasma VGA unit, please also consider the RGB to Component (YUV) or RGB to S-Video converter.

Plasma Screens.

Results vary depending how able your plasma screen is to work with RGB signals, therefore we've decided to create this chart to give you an idea of the results to expect.   This table is based upon feedback from plasma screen owners and retailers.   If your screen is not listed this only means that we've not tested the screen or that we have not had sufficient feedback from owners.

Manufacturer Plasma Screen Results / Compatibility
Panasonic

PW series - 3 through 10

PX and Viera

Excellent "Brilliant"

Picture is better than using the Panasonic Tuner box and other input boards.

Superior to standard SCART input.

Not Compatible

Toshiba All Excellent "Brilliant"

These are clones of the Panasonic display.

Fujitsu PDS4229E

Modern others

Older

Excellent - "Superb"

Good to Excellent

Yes.

NEC All Depends on source equipment.   May give dark bands and may also be a darker than normal picture.   Identical equipment on a different manufacturers screen work fine.

Recommend RGB to Component Converter.

Sony Plasma monitors

Integrated TV

Yes

No

Pioneer 4xxMXE and 5xxMXE with optional 5002 video board Yes.   Excellent.   5002 video board must be fitted.   Can be used with HD15 on Input01 and 5xBNC on Input02 (these inputs can also be configured for Component video too).
Pioneer 4xxMDE and 5xxHDE with Media Box or FDE No.   However, component video can be connected via Input 03.   HDE models already include SCART interfaces.
Pioneer Others Yes.   Excellent.
Daewoo See results -> Sharp picture.   Fine for mostly static images.

Recommend RGB to Component Converter.

Philips All No
Hitachi No. Recommend RGB to Component Converter.

Note, second VGA input may be configured for Component input on some models.

LG No Recommend RGB to Component Converter.
Others Check specifications for horizontal line frequency of 15kHz or contact us. 15kHz is the rate which a new picture line is presented to the screen.   While using the same connector, VGA can accept a variety of line frequencies.   A normal TV is typically only able to accept one (15kHz), but since a plasma screen is primarily intended to be a computer monitor it's range is much higher.

Projectors.

Unfortunately, most projectors are not compatible with the RGB to Plasma VGA unit, especially those designed as data projectors.   There is a small subset of projectors that will operate with the unit (such as those from Sim2), and some will work with NTSC (US) video sources only - such as with Region One DVDs.   The majority of projectors that we're asked about are designed for data projection, that is for use with a PC only, not home-cinema use.   See below for more information on Data Projectors.

For compatibility check the specifications for horizontal line frequency.   This must start at 15kHz, data projectors would normally start at 30kHz.   If your projector has component video input, then please consider the RGB to Component (YUV) converter.

A short summery of the various problem with projectors is presented below:

Symptom Comments
Projector displays No Signal. The projector is not compatible with 15kHz input.
Picture is displayed, but it's zoomed in. Projector can only display 640x480 images, PAL is larger than this.   Therefore, you only see a "window" of the full picture.   NTSC (R1) would be fine in this mode.
Picture is displayed, but it's zoomed out.   Look like a large area of over-scan. Projector is compatible, but is not scaling the PAL picture to fill the native resolution of the projector.
When there's motion, the images breaks down to lines around the motion Interlaced video isn't being displayed correctly, you're viewing interlaced video out of order.

PC Monitors, Data Projectors and TFT Screens.

PC monitors Data Projectors and TFT Screens typically have a line frequency requirement starting from 30kHz, which is higher that TV line frequencies.   Therefore, the RGB to Plasma VGA unit is not compatible with these monitors as they are design only to be used with PCs.   Some such monitors have S-Video input, therefore you may be interested in the RGB to S-Video Converter.

You may be able to use a line-doubler or progressive scanning device with PC monitors.   Lower specification scalars give questionable results, but others will certainly perform.   With the higher specification scalars, you will require to use component video input and therefore we recommend the RGB to Component converter.
